Epiphone Masterbilt DR 500MCE Features

The guitar boasts a high class mahogany body and neck, utilizing the first rate approach of a bound body, neck and headstock. Additional features include two notable modern technologies and techniques – NanoFlex which utilizes unique flexible sensing with integrated active electronics, and NanoMag sound system with three Samarian-Cobalt magnets and an integrated active circuit designed to capture a broad range of harmonics and sounds.

Considering the top class elements it brings and overall quality, we have to once again point out what a steal this guitar is! It is very unlikely that you will find a drastically better deal among medium-class guitars on the web, so if you need one such guitar combined with an outstanding sound for its niche and the aforementioned price tag, this Epiphone is your pick.

Back to the esthetic department, the product is available in Natural and Sunburst color finishes and sports a neat imitation tortoise pickguard, and a set of nickel hardware to add to the classy vibe. We should also note that durability is at a fairly high level, meaning that this thing does not tend to crack easily.

Sound

Now here comes the million dollar question – what does it sound like? When we say that sound is the most crucial feature of this guitar, we really mean it. It’s crystal clear and bright, yet rich with bass and warmth and packed to the gills with strong middle tones to add the extra punch we all yearn for.

The result of the given features is a big sound in both unplugged and plugged in mode. As a matter of fact, many satisfied customers have pointed out that the DR 500MCE sounds better when plugged in, making the electronics department yet another one of the instruments stand-out components.

The output is also quite versatile, allowing you to adapt to a broad range of musical styles and genres, including country, rock, pop, blues, and jazz.

Pros-reviewWhat we like

We like quite a few aspects of this Epiphone, but we’ll start with the sound. For the given price, we get the sound that is associated with at least two or three times more expensive instruments, and that is no mean feat. We already discussed the sound, so to sum it up – crystal clear, no buzz, loads of strength and punch.

We also like the durability, as this thing can take a punch without feeling it. Don’t abuse it now, but you should know that with merely a decent bag, this guitar will be safe during transport.

And once again – we love the price.

Cons-ReviewWhat we don’t like

It might sound cheeky to ask for more, but our job is to also list the things we would like this guitar to additionally have. So, a greater quality bone saddle would be nice, as this one is alright, but nothing more, and the same can be said about the stock plastic bridge pins. Finally, if that stellar plugged-in sound could be matched by the unplugged regime, that would just make this an all-time killer.

So a few improvements could be made, and our advice is that once you buy this guitar, you take it to your local guitar service and invest in a good setup and a few minor tweaks, you won’t regret it.

Conclusion

As you might have noticed, we mostly sang praises of the Epiphone DR 500MCE, and that is only because it deserves nothing less. Once again, we will stress that we are talking about a medium range guitar, so don’t expect a $5000 sound in a $500 package.

However, you can expect a $1000+ sound in this package, and it’s not just the sound, but build quality and looks. One of the most highly recommended items on the site, if the brief description suits your needs, buy it without hesitation, you simply cannot regret it.

  1. Owned one for a year, loved the versatility, but went on to something bigger.
For the budget we’re looking at, this is a great choice.
I used it mostly to play country gigs, and got zero complaints and quite a few compliments when I say how much I paid for it.
